Bear Creek Kids Race World Championships and StriderCross.

This weekend’s Mid-Atlantic Super Series Finals will feature the Bear Creek Kids Race World Championships and StriderCross.

The event, free and open to all kids, will feature classes for lil’racers up to 12 years of age, including the growing Strider-class. The multi-cornered course will be designed to both challenge and thrill the riders with small up- and down-hills, and will be 100% lined with course tape to give them the “big race feel”. The race loop will be set up in the center of the pits for maximum viewing pleasure and feature Supercross-style announcing and race analysis. It will take place just after the Expert/Elite race and before the Awards ceremony so all parents will be able to attend and everyone can cheer them on. There are phenomenal prizes once again for the participants.

Please enter your child — this is such a great time for them. And definitely come out and yell loudly for them. Future champions are born out of good support and nurturing.

Super D added to Summer Showdown on 9/17/11

Due to popular demand, we added a Super D to the Summer Showdown weekend on 9/17/11. Shuttle service will once again be offered for practice runs and for the race. You can sign up fo the race on www.bikereg.com

Bear Creek Challenge Course Update

The Bear Creek Challenge, that takes place on 8/13 and 8/14 is just 3 days away. The Cross Country course and Super D courses are both marked. The XC course is marked with black arrows and the Super D is marked with yellow arrows. The short track will actually be on the slopes on the right side of the mountain but that will only be open the day of the race.

South Mountain Cycle will be doing a Super D training ride on Thursday, 8/11 at 5:30 PM.

We will not have shuttle service on Thursday but we will have a shuttle running for practice and race runs on Saturday.

Bear Creek to Host 2 Triathlons

Bear Creek will host 2 Triathlons on 7/30 and 7/31. The mountain bike trails will be closed during the race. The trails should re-open both days at 12:00 noon. Please do not remove any arrows or caution tape.

Music Under the Stars

On the 4th Thursday of the month, Bear Creek hosts a free community concert in our outdoor Rock Garden. We call the event ‘Music Under the Stars’. Come on out and ride the trails and then take part in Music Under the Stars from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM. The Grille will be serving food from the menu. Picnikers are welcome as well.

Bear Creek Adventure Race

The Bear Creek Adventure Race is set but I can’t tell you what it is. The idea of an adventure race is to not know just what to expect. What I can tell you is the following;
3 person teams work togehter on a course that will include 8-12 miles of mountain biking, 4-8 miles of trail running and bush whacking; fitness tests, check points all over worth different points, water rescue strategies and special tasks.

Sound like fun? We think so!

Bear Creek Challenge Update

With the Bear Creek Challenge 1 month away, I thought I would give an update on the race. The XC course will be a 7 mile loop. We are entertaining a couple different course options. One of the option is something completely different then any route we ever ran. Stay tuned on that one.

Bear Creek Trails are Back

Bear Creek hosted Tough Mudder on 4/9 and 4/10. The good news is that it brought 10,000 competitors and over 5,000 spectators to Bear Creek. The bad new is that the trails got hammered. The trail crew has been hard at work getting the trails back to where they should be and I am pleased to say that the trails are in great shape and open for business. There are still some wet spots and muddy sections but that’s to be expected with all the rain that we’ve had this Spring. We are still out there working on some clean up, wash out issues, bridge issues and new trail development.

So, get out there and start riding. The PA State Championships only 4 months away!
